Product Development Engineer
Summary Description:
This position provides Engineering support and executes New Product Development (NPD) and Innovation projects as well as sustaining engineering.
Specific Duties and Responsibility:
1. Under direction from the Engineering Manager, or the Director of Manufacturing and Engineering, creates and modifies 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, in support of NPD and Innovation projects.
2. Take product performance specifications from the Marketing Department, and design new products that meet those specifications.
3. Performs tolerance stack up studies of assemblies, based on the capability of the manufacturing process for each component in assembly.
4. Performs laboratory and field tests to validate new product designs.
5. Travel as necessary to evaluate the capabilities of domestic and foreign suppliers.
6. Optimize new product designs to minimize part count, and maximize manufacturability and product performance.
7. Works with the Engineering Technician to devise and construct working prototypes for NPD and Innovation projects.
8. Attend NPD or Sustaining Engineering project meetings, and work as a part of a cross-functional team.
9. Conform to proper drafting practices, standards and/or specifications.
10. Performs NPD ECOs from the beginning to the end, including final distribution to all the necessary parties.
11. Performs operations in BPCS, such as creation and maintenance of Routers, Bills of Materials, INV100 entries, and CST100 entries.
12. Writes and maintains Document Control and Engineering procedures, with direction from the Engineering Manager, or the Director of Engineering and Manufacturing.
13. Perform basic stress analysis to determine optimal part designs, to minimize material wastage.
14. Interface with outside suppliers to obtain prototypes and production samples, perform metallurgical and chemical analysis, and conduct destructive testing.
15. Perform ISO Internal Audits per requirements. Create and maintain new and existing ISO procedures, practices and documentation.

Position Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required. 3-5 years of experience in Mechanical Design and New Product Development.
